In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a new Star Wars movie coming out. Being a group of motorheads, we kind of dig all the crazy vehicles that have been cooked up by the franchise over the years. While many of the iconic crafts do their thing in outer space, Supreme Suspensions’ core competencies lie in outfitting land-based rigs so we’ll leave discussion of YT-1300f’s and Tie Fighters to the folks over at Northrop Grumman. That said, we present to you the top five Star Wars ground vehicles, in no particular order:

SoroSuub X-34 Star Wars Ground Vehicles

This is a classic, no fuss open-topped two-seater that served as solid go-to civilian transportation. Although quick in its day, it was easily outrun by successive models. That said, the X-34 packed a beefy repulsorlift to take on terrain that the later models couldn’t handle until the Roughrider upgrade was offered on the XP-38. Sure, the XP-38 is faster and more modern but the X-34 can be bought for super cheap and can take an absolute beating. Skywalker’s even ran fine missing an engine cowling. There’s nothing like the charm of a well-built classic.

Kuat Drive Yards All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) Star Wars Ground Vehicles

These heavily armored transporters’ imposing appearance was nearly as effective as their tactical fortitude. Through several variations, these hulking behemoths have ushered countless Imperial soldiers and implements into battle. While not the quickest things out there, their tall mechanical legs allowed them to traverse nearly any terrain. Taking out one of the legs will render the AT-AT relatively useless but you have to get past some serious on-board artillery before you can pull that off.

Anakin Skywalker’s Podracer

Who doesn’t love tearing along at breakneck speed in the heat of competition, especially while effectively being towed behind two giant engines? Podracers came in several flavors and were highly customizable. We’re particularly partial to Anakin Skywalker’s who, as it turns out, was actually a pretty cool guy before Palpatine started messing with his head. As a little kid, he managed to build the fastest one around (out of scraps, no less) and win his way out of slavery. This is the kind of stuff that legends are made of.

MandalMotors Balutar-Class Swoop Star Wars Ground Vehicles

Not unlike our Earth-bound motorcycles, speeder bikes come in a variety of designs for a variety of uses. Common as civilian transport, it’s also not unusual to find a cache of speeder bikes loaded up in an AT-AT, ready to be deployed for ground combat. Though not nearly as iconic as the 74-Z, our nod actually goes to the Balutar-class swoop. Its tidy dimensions, easy maneuverability, and high power ratings make it a sort of intergalactic CBR1000RR and that’s not a bad thing.

Incom Corporation T-47 Snowspeeder (honorable mention)

Derived from T-47 airspeeders, these aren’t technically ground vehicles but they were modified for ground combat in freezing conditions. Relatively quick and armed with a couple of fairly substantial laser cannons, these small assault crafts were able to hold their own on the battlefield. Their ace in the hole, however, was a harpoon gun mounted aft of the tail gunner and attached to a long tow cable. By hitting an AT-AT in the leg with the harpoon and circling it a few times with the tow cable, the AT-AT would be rendered immobile and typically crash into the ground. Pretty neat.
